One area so far relatively untouched is changemanagement. The failure of major transformation projects to deliver the expected benefits is a well-documented phenomenon : many change programs simply do not achieve their business goals. To date, changemanagement has not been based on a data-driven model.
Changemanagement can be a test for any organization. Several studies by Towers Watson show that just 25% of changemanagement initiatives are successful over the long term. Changemanagement certainly tested us. It was a highly valued change. I just didn’t know in what ways.
Common wisdom in management science and practice has it that to build support for a change project, visionary leadership is needed to outline what is wrong with the current situation. By explaining how the envisioned change will result in a better and more appealing future, leaders can overcome resistance to change.
